NAT Education
New American Theater is committed to fostering the growth of the performing arts in the Tampa Bay Area. NAT offers people the opportunity to learn and develop techniques in all aspects of musical theatre. At NAT, we teach the techniques involved in singing, dance, acting, musical theatre performance and production. We identify and nurture potential young talent, and allow students the opportunity to develop their personal, social and communications skills which are immediately applicable to their everyday and future life experiences.
NAT Academy

Adult Acting I
Ages: 16 & up
Instructor: Selena Ambush
Location: BayWalk Center, Wednesdays, 5:30-7:30pm
Class Schedule: 10 week course
Tuition: $195
Class Description: This 10-week course offers those 16 and up the opportunity to begin exploration or continue the actor’s journey at any level. Focus will be placed on warm-up techniques for body and voice, relationship and ensemble building, script analysis, character development, and basic improvisation all based out 20th Century Stanislavski-based techniques developed to create truth onstage. Students will have the opportunity to perform in a showcase of scenes at the completion of the course.
Directing for the Stage
Ages: 18 & up
Instructor: Selena Ambush
Location: BayWalk Center, Wednesdays, 7:45-9:45pm

Class Description: The Director is the unifying force of any theatre production. In this 12-week course, students will learn the basics of what it takes to get inside the play from script analysis, research/preparation, holding auditions, blocking and polishing a production as well as a basic stage vocabulary. The course will culminate in a presentation of scenes or short one-acts directed by the students.
Improvisation
Ages: 16 & up
Instructor: Rolando Ramos
Location: BayWalk Center, Tuesdays, 7:15-9:15pm

Class Description: In this 10-week course, students will Create scenes, making bold choices, and finding the courage to follow through. Actors of all levels are invited to enter the world of improvisation. With the use of warm-up techniques and theatre games actors will create a vibrant and truthful world without the use of a written script.
Rising Stars
Ages: 5 – 11
Instructor: Rolando Ramos
Location: BayWalk Center, Tuesdays, 5:30-7:30pm

Class Description: This 10-week class will teach the basic acting techniques for children through the art of story telling. With the use of physical and vocal warm up techniques for body and voice as well as theater games will this course will help young actors of any experience level get comfortable onstage. Focus will be placed on relationship and ensemble building, script analysis, character development, and basic improvisation.
Teen Acting I
Ages: 12-16
Instructor: Rolando Ramos
Location: BayWalk Center, Saturdays, 10:00 – 12:00pm
Class Schedule: 10 week course
Tuition: $195
Class Description: Students in this 10-week class will focus on building fully developed characters. Students will also become familiar with physical and vocal warm-up techniques and exercises meant to remove inhibition and connect body, mind and soul.
Stage Management

Class Description: Stage Managers. Every show has one, or the show can’t go on. Learn the art of stage management from A to Z. From pre-production to the closing notice. The stage manager is the touchstone for all elements of any production.
Stage Combat : Basic Hand to Hand

Class Description: This class will take students through the basics of stage combat, including body movement and control, and simple stage techniques. The class will cover basic foot work, grabs and chokes, punches and kicks, falls, basic reaction techniques. The class will teach how to effectively and safely bring the many genres of stage combat to live theater.

Private Coaching

The NAT Academy offers private coaching in acting, auditioning, vocal performance and competition.

Young American Theater
Plans are in the works for our children’s theater program. Students will have the opportunity to use the skills they have learned at the Academy to produce shows and present them.
Summer Theater Intensive
Scheduled to begin Summer 2012, this program will challenge and strengthen the students in several areas of musical theater, culminating in a full-scale musical production.
